UNANNOUNCED SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM OBSERVATION DATA COLLECTION

11 ISER-N staffs trained as observers conducted unannounced classroom observation data collection from January 21 to March 22, 2019 in the 114 schools that participated in the student assessment. Three waves (12 observations in each wave in each school) of observation were completed in Grade 6, 7 and 8 of each school. The purpose of observation was to gather the information on classroom environments, such as teaching-learning methodology, instructional practice of teachers, students’ attitude towards learning, teacher-students interaction, management of physical objects, etc. The survey was administered by using windows tablets.

The school observation was conducted in all those schools during the first wave of the classroom observation data collection (the first day the observer visited the school). The objectives of the observation was to collect the information on schools’ environment; physical infrastructure such as buildings and it’s types; facility of drinking water, toilet and it’s hygiene; Library, Computer lab, Science lab and it’s accessibility to students; separate room for Head teacher, Teachers and Administration; etc. The data collection was carried out by using hard copy. The data collection process took place in between January 21 and February 14, 2019.
